![]() rom the Creation of the world through the fall of the Persian empire at the hands of Alexander the Great in 331 BC, The Story of the Ancient World retells as an engaging narrative the history of mankind’s beginning, the rise of the nations, and the story of the great ancient civilizations of the Sumerians, the Hebrews, the Egyptians, the Phoenicians, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, and the Persians. Old Testament history is taken as authoritative, and the history of the other great ancient civilizations is also told, woven in and out of the Old Testament story at the proper places in the narrative.
As with the other Guerber histories republished by Nothing New Press, The Story of the Ancient World is illustrated throughout with famous paintings of its historical subjects, and photographs of the places it describes. Not only are maps present in the beginning of the book, but throughout the text as well, which greatly aids in making the narrative more clear. And as with the other Guerber histories, the pronunciation of personal and place names are carefully marked in the text upon their first occurance. A complete timeline of the events and persons mentioned in the text, a comprehensive Recommended Reading list keyed to the chapters, and a thorough bibliography and index rounds out the book. Website Connection ReestablishedDecember 2006 Update: And as you can see, we have finally resolved the problem with connecting to the Nothing New Press website, so that we can post updates and finish uploading the Ancient World pages. Most of you know that we moved to a new home and office in September, at which time we also upgraded our old and worn out computers for new, thinking better technology would help us make updates to the website more quickly and finish the Ancient World manuscript more easily. What actually happened is myriad problems transferring data and upgrading programs from our old systems to our new, and when those issues were finally resolved, we found we were unable to connect to our website from our new location. We daily faced new problems with the technology, getting our manuscript transferred to the upgraded data file required by our printer’s, and solving such was my first priority. When there was a lull in that battle, we worked on the website connection issue without success. Finally, at the beginning of December, the last of the Ancient World file problems were overcome, which enabled us to work on the website connection full time. That problem has also finally been solved. Before we close for Christmas, we will finish uploading all the links for the right sidebar menu. Speaking of Christmas, normally we are closed between Christmas and New Year's. But since we have heard from our printer's that the books have been shipped, we expect them to arrive the day after Christmas, and we will not be closed that week, as we hope to be shipping all the preorders before the New Year. We are so excited and much relieved around here, and thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for your patience through this difficult process. August 2006 Update: We did not get the manuscript sent to the printer’s by July 31st. During proofreading we discovered inconsistencies in the Egyptian chronology that had to be corrected; and that turned out to be quite a project. Every correction we made threw the narrative off in another place. The problem came in with the inscriptions on the monuments, which were not available to Ussher and Bryant (both their histories were based on ancient and classical scholarship, and not archaeology); however, their histories started with Scripture as accurate history. And I knew that Scripture had to harmonize with the monuments, assuming the monuments were correct, since the history recorded in Scripture was accurate; it was simply a matter of finding the key to the puzzle. As most modern writers which explain the monuments completely disregard Scripture, it proved to be a difficult undertaking. However, once we did away with preconceived ideas and looked at the evidence with simply a view to harmonizing the inscriptions on the monuments in light of Scripture, I believe we found the key we were looking for. Our Egyptian chronology, after revision, is now consistent across the board with Scripture, and the ancient and classical scholarship on which Ussher and Bryant relied, and also the monuments, based on the all the source material we were able to find which described the monuments. This extra effort delayed our manuscript to the printers, and I am so sorry, that that was the case. However, the good news is that it is there now, and while we will not be able to ship it next week as we had originally hoped, since it is still being printed, it will not be long now. Our revised estimate based on what the printers have told us is mid September. I do so hope the wait will be worth it; my proofreader tells me it is the best book she has ever read on ancient history; so I am hopeful. July 2006 Update: We are still on track for shipping the book in late August! In the month of August we will also be making the links on the right active. June 2006 Update: Thank you all for your patience, your prayers and kind e-mail regarding my mother. She has passed away. We are working to finish Ancient World; our revised goal is to have it sent to the printer’s by July 31st, thus it would be shipped in August. March 2006 Update: Let me apologize for taking so long to post this update. The events of real life have modified our projections. My mother is dying of cancer. We have made a committment to keep her at home to the end, even though her health and daily care requirements are consistent with nursing home care. Hospice is now assisting us, since her doctors expect her battle to soon be over. January 2006 Update: We did not meet our Christmas 2005 goal. We are working now on finishing and formatting the additional chapters that have to be added to Guerber’s history. We are revising our availability to late February or March 2006, but as we get closer we will be able to predict the shipping date with better accuracy.
